In the Fullness of Time ~~~~

When I read those five words, ‘In the Fullness of Time’, I always think of Abraham.  A strong man of God with lots of dirty laundry scattered through his life.  And another word comes to mind almost instantly when those five words present themselves – – that being “Patience”.  Do you agree?

The story of Abraham/Sarah/Hagar/Ishmael/Isaac is a real statement.

God revealed to Abram (and Sarai) (their names were about to change), that he would be the father of many nations when he was 75 years old.  At age 90, God renewed the Promise and at 100 years of age, they had their “son”. From the first development of this story until he was physically there, it was 25 years.

In the Fullness of Time.  Ah.  Yes!!  Beautiful paragraph above isn’t it!!

Butttttt, Sarai, being without child for so long, knowing she had not been able to bear a child became very impatient and gave her maid-servant to Abraham – this was acceptable in those times.  But Sarai wanted to hurry God’s hand along and help Him out on this matter. Jealousy set in and one thing led to another and Hagar and Ishmael were ‘out the door’.

An angel of the Lord found Hagar and told her:”Behold, you are with child, and you shall bear a son; and you shall call his name Ishmael.  Because the Lord has given heed to your affliction.  He will be a wild donkey of a man, his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand will be against him; and he will live to the east of all his brothers” (Gen. 16:11,12). This seems to have been fulfilled in Gen. 25:12-16.

And this is where I want to stop and share a bombshell with you.

In Gen. 17:20 we read, “As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation”.  So now turn to Gen. 25:12-16. It is too long for me to post, but please read it because the above verse seems to have been fulfilled in 25:12-16.

It was through Ishmael’s twelve sons that the Arab nations originated.  Yes.  What a bombshell!!!!!!!!

Isaac represents the Jews.

Ishmael represents the Arabs.

They have always been at each other’s throats and the war between the two will never ever end until our Lord comes.

ALL of this because of Sarah’s lack of patience and lack of belief a/k/a not waiting on The Fullness of Time.

I have read that the way of holiness is not achieved through hurriedness, busy-ness or instant production.  The way of God is the way of waiting.

How long has the church waited for Christ’s return – over 2,000 years.  We will continue waiting until…………………………….The Fullness of Time.

I will leave our Study at this point for the weekend.  Monday, I want to continue with Abraham and the un-thinkable that God requested of him.

Til Monday then…….Marge
