John broke sharply from the style of MML. They focused on events. John focused on the meaning of what Jesus said and did.
John assumes his readers already know the facts, i.e., no Christmas scenes. Jesus is introduced as the adult Son of God.
John portrays Jesus as the Son of God. Written to all who will believe. The purpose of leading men to Christ. The opening verse carries us back to “The Beginning”.
All that John is going to discuss with us is crowded into the first 18 verses of Chapter one.
The first verse is launched in a powerful way, different from the Synoptic Gospels.
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.”
John 3. Salvation
John 6. Seeking spiritual energy
John 14. Need reassurance. Christ gives us the answer for our life beyond the here and now.
John 14-17 How to have a quiet time
John 14:17. He is not saying, “there, there”. Instead …. “Don’t allow it. It is bad for you!”
John 17 Prayer
John 20 and 21. Jesus Christ is victorious over death. He “ever liveth”. He appeared eleven times after His resurrection. He helped the disciples gather themselves and prepare to carry out His great commission.
(I am reminded that Peter had denied Christ three times but here the Lord restores him to full service. What does this tell us!!!! Christ wants us first of all to love Him and be sold out to Him. When we truly love Him, we can’t help but serve as He leads us and directs us.)
Becoming more obedient–how about you!!!! Marge
