Today is our third part of Psalm 23. We finish it up today. Enjoy and be blest!!
When we have sinned so greatly, how can we expect to have “company” as we “walk through the valley of the shadow of death”?
Of course – we are not going to “laugh” our way all the way to the grave. We do not know exactly what to expect. But the one thing we can know and expect, IF we are Christians, is that the Lord will never leave us even during the time of our departure from the earth. Jesus Christ took every one of our sins upon Himself on that cruel Cross years and years ago.
The Lord is our Shepherd and He has promised to be with us every step of the way. How can this be? Dr. Rogers gives us in his summary the following which I believe will give you great comfort.
You will find the Lord Jesus described as a SHEPHERD three times in the New Testament.
As the GOOD….CHIEF….GREAT….SHEPHERD.
GOOD SHEPHERD: “I am the Good Shepherd; the Good Shepherd giveth his life for the sheep (that’s ‘us’)” John 10:11.
CHIEF SHEPHERD: “And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear you shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away” 1 Peter 5:4.
GREAT SHEPHERD: “Now the God of peace that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, that Great Shepherd of the sheep” Heb. 13: 20, 21.
THE GOOD SHEPHERD died for me and rose from the dead, conquering the valley of the shadow of death.
THE CHIEF SHEPHERD is coming for me.
THE GREAT SHEPHERD lives for me.
As much as I know the 23rd Psalm, it stills gives me goosebumps to know that He cares for the likes of me………….and you are no different that I, either. He doesn’t throw us to the wolves. He goes with us – He cares about how we travel and how we arrive.
Yes. There is Mount Calvary and Mount Zion and there is Psalm 23 in-between. If God’s Word doesn’t excite you, I don’t know what would.
Dr. Rogers, at the end of his study of Psalm 23, invites us to pray a prayer like this if any one out there in Readers Land is not for sure that they are saved. Here it is for you.
“Dear God, I know You love me and I know You want to save me. Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd. You died for this lost sheep. You died for me. And Lord, You are the Great Shepherd. You’ve been raised from the dead. You are the Chef Shepherd. You are coming again. I want you to be my Shepherd. I open my heart. I receive you now, right this moment, as my Savior and as my Lord. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Forgive my sin and save me. Thank you for doing it Lord Jesus. And help me never to be ashamed of You. In Your name I pray, Amen.”
If you have just prayed this prayer, welcome to Life Everlasting. You will never be alone again. You can believe every promise that God has made. When He gave up His Son Jesus, on the cross for you and for me, He isn’t going to let us go very easily because a BIG price was paid for our lives. May Jesus Christ Be Praised in your heart, your mind and your soul. God bless.
